TechNote: 0010 Date : 07/16/96 Cat/Sub : WANPIPE/LINUX Title : Release 2.20 of WANPIPE Multiprotocol WAN router is now available Contact : Gene Kozin, 74604,152@compuserve.com Related Files: /pub/linux/wanpipe.tgz /pub/linux/wanpipe.txt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Release 2.20 of Sangoma's WANPIPE Multiprotocol WAN Router for Linux is now available. WANPIPE (tm) is a family of muliprotocol WAN routing software that together with Sangoma's Synchronous Data Link Adapter (SDLA) provides PC connectivity to various synchronous communication links, including frame relay, PPP, X.25, SDLC, etc. WANPIPE allows you to build inexpensive, yet high performance PC-based TCP/IP routers to connect your branch offices to the head office or to get a high throughput Internet connection for your local area network. Sangoma has implemented WANPIPE technology on most PC platforms, including DOS (KA9Q), Windows NT(tm), Windows(tm) 95, NetWare(tm), SCO Unix and, of course, Linux. WANPIPE for Linux is available free of charge. You pay for the adapter, of course, but if you already have one, switching to Linux will not cost you a penny! The latest version of the WANPIPE for Linux can be downloaded from Sangoma's FTP site (use URL ftp://ftp.sangoma.com/pub/linux/wanpipe.tgz). The software is distributed under the Limited Use License Agreement and is not re-distributable. Please read /pub/linux/LICENSE for more information. NEW IN THIS RELEASE ------------------- o Now compatible with Linux 2.0.x. o Added uninstall script. o Includes User's Manual in HTML format. INSTALLATION ------------ 1) Download gzip'ed tar archive from Sangoma's FTP site: ftp://www.sangoma.com/pub/linux/wanpipe.tgz Make sure you use binary transfer mode for downloading the file. 2) Uncompress downloaded distribution archive using Linux'gunzip utility: gunzip wanpipe.tgz This command will create a file named wanpipe.tar. To proceed with the installation you have to be logged in as a superuser (root) and be in the root directory (i.e. '/' , not '/root'). 3) Transfer files from the installation media to your system using Linux' tar utility: tar xf {media} where {media} is a name of your floppy disk drive (usually /dev/fd0 or /dev/fd1), in case of installation from the distribution disk, or a name of the decompressed tar-file you obtained in previous step if you are installing from the downloaded tar archive. For example, if your uncompressed tar archive is in /home/you directory, use the following command: tar xf /home/you/wanpipe.tar 4) Read WANPIPE User's Manual, found in /usr/lib/wanpipe/MANUAL after the installation. HOW TO UPGRADE -------------- If you are upgrading from the most recent version (2.10), backup the following configuration files: /etc/wanpipe.conf /etc/flip.conf /usr/lib/wanpipe/cfg/* /usr/lib/wanpipe/ifi/* Then install new release and, finally, restore configuration files from your backup. If you are upgrading from one of the older releases (2.0 and below), please note that due to changes in product structure some files changed their location, have been renamed, replaced or became obsolete. We strongly suggest you remove all old product components (files, device nodes, links, etc.) before installing this release. For the list of all files created during the installation please refer to WANPIPE User's Manual.
