·         V.17 fax and other current non-fax gateway applications are still fully supported in the affected Products as of the date of this release.

Regarding DMG2xxx SU10V34 V.34 fax testing, the following is recommended:

·         When testing with SR140, use SR140 SDK 6.5.6 or higher.

·         When testing with SR140, disable the SR140's CED tone generation T.38 parameter.

·         When using T1 CAS configuration, use a rate such as 26.4 kbps or lower.  Higher rates may result in fax session failures due to robbed bit signaling.

Regarding browser support, the following should be noted by users:

·         Browser support is currently limited to Firefox and Internet Explorer (version IE9 and prior versions).

·         Although IE10/IE11/Google Chrome browsers are not directly supported, these browsers may be used if compatibility mode is enabled.

V.17 Call List enhancement

The Gateway supports a new mode of operation such that a user may select V.34 fax mode as a default, global setting but also create a list of exceptional cases (phone numbers) that will use V.17 fax mode.

Based on field testing, there are scenarios where a V.34 fax session does not complete.  For example, a remote V.34 fax machine may go silent.  Under these circumstances where a V.34 fax session fails to complete on a reliable basis, it is recommended to enter the phone number into the V.17 call list so that future fax sessions will complete in a reliable manner.

The Gateway supports this new mode of operation known as the “V.17 call list” feature in both directions – outbound calls and inbound calls.  For outbound calls, a fax is sent to a remote fax machine.  For inbound calls, a fax is received from a remote fax machine.

The feature allows fax sessions to be configurable on a per call basis rather than on a system basis.  Most fax sessions may use V.34 fax mode but some exceptional cases may use V.17 fax mode in order to ensure a high rate of fax session completion.

In the configuration parameter table below, there is a description of the two new parameters used to enable this feature:
dspFaxV17CallListOutbound and dspFaxV17CallListInbound

This feature is relevant for defects IPY00102352 and IPY00115606.

FR-IPY00115606

DMG2030DTI,

DMG2060DTISQ
(310-959)

V.34 Retrain to Lower Speed enhancement

The Gateway supports a new mode of operation which enables automatic rate reduction when line impairments are present.  Reducing the fax rate will reduce fax retransmissions (PPRs).  In the case where multiple PPRs occur, the Gateway will issue a retrain command and lower the rate.  For example, by default, the gateway will retrain to two rates lower (Fax Retrain Step Down=2) after two block PPRs (Fax Retrain Threshold=2).

In the configuration parameter table below, there is a description of the three new parameters:
dspFaxV34RetrainEnable, dspFaxV34RetrainThreshold, and dspFaxV34RetrainStepDown

This feature is relevant for defect IPY00115606.

New/modified configuration parameters

Config.ini parameter

Applicable FR/Detect

Description

dspFaxSendOneV21PreambleEnable

IPY00115624

In the case where the incoming signal contains V.21 preamble, silence, V.21 preamble then the DMG will remove silence and send one V.21 preamble not two.

Default: Off
“On” means send one uninterrupted V.21 preamble flag byte sequence.
“Off” means send broken V.21 preamble flag byte sequence which allows silence between V.21 flag bytes.

The new parameter may also be found on the WebUI:
Configuration > DSP Settings > T.38 Advanced Settings > FAX Send One V.21 Preamble.

dspFaxV34RetrainEnable

IPY00115606

Enables rate reduction when line impairments are present. Reducing the fax rate will reduce fax retransmissions (PPRs).

In the case where multiple PPRs occur, the DMG will issue a retrain command and lower the rate. For example, by default, the gateway will retrain to two rates lower (Fax Retrain Step Down=2) after two block PPRs (Fax Retrain Threshold=2).

Default: On
“On” means enable rate reduction when line impairments are present.
“Off” means disable rate reduction when line impairments are present

The new parameter may also be found on the WebUI:
Configuration > DSP Settings > T.38 Advanced Settings > FAX V.34 Retrain Enable.

dspFaxV34RetrainThreshold

IPY00115606

This parameter sets the number of PPRs (retransmissions) threshold to enable retrain to a lower rate.

Default: 2

Value range: 1-4

The new parameter may also be found on the WebUI:
Configuration > DSP Settings > T.38 Advanced Settings > FAX V.34 Retrain Threshold.

dspFaxV34RetrainStepDown

IPY00115606

This parameter sets the number of rate levels to lower the rate by during a retrain operation. For example, if the value is 2 and the rate is 33.6k, then the rate will be reduced to 28.8k.

Default: 2

Value range: 1-4

The new parameter may also be found on the WebUI:
Configuration > DSP Settings > T.38 Advanced Settings > FAX V.34 Retrain Step Down.

dspFaxV17CallListOutbound

IPY00102352

This parameter allows a user to override the V.34 fax setting for a specific set of phone numbers in the outbound direction (i.e. the remote fax machine is receiving a fax from the DMG).  V.17 fax may be used for a specific set of phone numbers since V.17 fax mode may be more resilient to line impairments and interoperability issues.  The V.17 call list provides a mode of operation to handle cases when the V.34 fax mode fails to complete in a timely manner.

Default: empty list (no default)
The V.17 call list phone numbers should be delimited by semi-colons.

dspFaxV17CallListInbound

IPY00102352

This parameter allows a user to override the V.34 fax setting for a specific set of phone numbers in the inbound direction (i.e. the
remote fax machine is sending a fax to the DMG).

The SU10V34 release also contains all of the SU10 bug fixes and features detailed below.

Compatibility Notes:

Title

Description

Microsoft OCS - Voice Detection on ISDN

The Gateway may not send the SIP 200 OK response when the far end user answers the call until the user speaks on TDM-to-IP calls when using an ISDN protocol (e.g. QSIG, NI-2, etc.).

Microsoft OCS - Early Media

The Gateway is not compatible with the SIP Early Media feature as implemented on the Microsoft Mediation Server.

Norstar PBX DTMF

Norstar switches do not render DTMF digital station to digital station. This means that DTMF cannot be used to signal from a digital station to a DMG1000 port connected to a Norstar switch.

Avaya Legend PBX CPID

Avaya Legend switches do not provide redirecting call-party information when the call has been forwarded to a coverage-path to which the DMG1000 is a member. This means that DMG1000 will not be able to determine the called-party for inbound PBX calls that have been forwarded to a coverage-path.

Dial-Digit Relay Notes

There are 3 ways to achieve digit relay between the IP side and the TDM side. They are via the VoIP signal protocol, RFC2833 tones in RTP, or inband tones in RTP.

For VoIp signal protocol, SIP does not yet support this. Drafts are in early stages. Therefore, we do not generate/receive signal digit relay on SIP (even though it is still part of the configuration).

RTP digit relay, both inband-tone and RFC2833, works on SIP.
Most SIP devices will render an actual tone when they receive an RFC2833 digit event, but they don't have to.
The gateway will render an actual tone when it receives an RFC2833 digit event on SIP.

Inband-tone works on both SIP and H.323, since it is actually going through the voice channel. But, some devices will remove the inband-tone from the voice stream.

Type II (Post-Answer) CPID

TDM-to-VoIP calls: when VoIP endpoint answers, first few seconds of audio may be clipped because audio is squelched during transmission of Type II CPID from the switch. On switch side of the call, the caller still receives ring-back tone while the switch is playing the Type II CPID tones.
